A quick tribute to the dichotomy of the Indian Liberals

Calling yourself a liberal doesn’t mean that you are truly liberated. Just see the Contradictions mentioned below. Dedicating this to the cheering crowds of JLF:

1.       Everyone is talking about women rights more so after the infamous Delhi gang rape. We acknowledge that law should be made harsh. Even smallest of the crime against women should be punished. Also, to acknowledge these crimes, Police and judiciary should be trained and made sensitized. However, nobody talks about adaption of a gender friendly  uniform civil code. Family is the smallest constituent of any society. Our current civil laws (by way of medieval era civil codes) however allow discrimination at the very foundation of the society. Liberals are silent. They passionately talk about women rights and mock the statements of Hindu rightists mentioning “Bhartiya Sabhyata” and “Lakshmana Rekha”. Still, no liberal is crossing the “Lakshman Rekha” of discussing civil codes in the public domain.  It is indeed intellectually brave (less likely to be termed as Savyata) to exist with such a brazen contradiction of thoughts. Liberals in India certainly have a huge cognitive ability.

2.       Passion runs high on Gujarat and migration of a few hundred Muslims from there. However, there is an established stand of “indifference” on Kashmir's Hindus. Liberals have almost advocated a “Forget and Forgive” for Kashmir's Hindus but a “force and focus” for Gujarati Muslims. We should learn from our liberals to think from brain and heart at the same time.

3.       Modi reached out to Muslims through an Urdu daily “Nai Duniya” by giving an interview. There was a Tsunami of intellectual disdain against the poor editor and he was thrown out of all “secular” parties. Same fate was meted out to the vice chancellor of Deoband when he had spoken his mind on Modi rule. The poor academician tried his level best to retract/distract, but it didn’t work. He was thrown out of deoband for permanent oblivion. Compare this with Rajiv Gandhi’s brave move to reach out to the Sikhs and ink the Longowala pact. The entire intellectual Junta of this country rose up to the occasion. With one stroke of pen while signing the accord, Rajiv Gandhi was absolved of any omission of duty as a PM in 1984 and commission of crime through many “inflammatory" statements e.g. large tree/small tree being one of them. Question remains unanswered, why our liberals allowed Rajiv Gandhi a space to reconcile and move on while Modi has been denied any kind of dialog with the Muslim community. Is this due to the fact that Modi doesn’t carry a pedigree equivalent to the blue-blooded Gandhis?

4.       When Modi was fighting at the behest of the VHP, RSS and their affiliates, he was termed as communal and the liberals cited these reasons to denounce him. When Modi fought against the same forces (who supported Keshu Bhai Patel and even Congress on a few seats), the liberals were liberally providing loads of sympathies for Keshu Bhai. Therefore, it was not the VHP/RSS hatred; the hatred comes from the class divide between a Modi and the liberals. How can an individual who doesn’t belong to an eminent (elite) family and can’t even speak good English and who used to sell Bhajiyas at a railway station, may be hailed for developing a development model.

5.       Development model of Modi has been questioned on human development indices. It was a desperate attempt to malign an established fact that Gujrat has ideed done better than most parts of our country. Nobody talks about the human capital indices of Rae Bareli and Amethi which has been ruled by the Gandhis since ages. Amethi and Rae Bareli are poor (both economically and as per Human capital indices) due to them being in UP NOT due to the inefficiency of the Gandhi clan. Liberals of our country can keep their cognitive balance even if they carry such a loaded sense of contradiction. Hilarious!!!

6.       Liberals have perpetually been class/caste/community conscious but have been able to carry a façade. However, sometimes the reality comes out of the closet due to a few motor mouths like Tarun Tejpal (Chinese/Punjabis) and Ashish Nandi (corruption breeds from Dalit and OBCs).

7.       Liberals have hailed the Supreme Court on forcing seat delimitation of Lok sabha constituencies. This certainly would realign the changes in the population mix and facilitate better representation. However, the same was shamelessly not applied in J&K. People in Jammu and Laddakh elect lesser “per capita” number of representatives compared to Kashmir valley. Liberals justify this by acknowledging the state of J&K as a disputed area whose Indianization is still in process. Interlocutors have not even discussed this in their report. Amazing is the sense of justice, applied with a different wavelength under different situations.

8.     Our liberals were outraged when Modi used the term “50 crore girlfriend”. The minister concerned went public from the rooftop saying that his wife was priceless. However, nobody questions the minister on why 50 crore sweat equity was offered to his girlfriend at the first place. Why doesn’t he reply to this question even from his drawing room, if not from the rooftop? Is his love for honesty and ethics in public life, so less compared to his love for his wife. Society is anxious on corruption and our liberals have successfully spun a corruption saga into an issue of gender bias and orthodox thing. Innovative marketing indeed!!

9.  we have assumed that there indeed exits a "Hindu terror" when the matter is still sub-judice. However, we are still not sure of "Batla House" encounter where one of our brave policemen was killed. If Rahul gandhi visits Azamgarh, it is is to propogate peace. when Rajnath Singh travels to Pune, it is conspire against peace.

10. A noted liberal (probably he is a professional liberal) had publicly called himself an atheist. However, if you probe a bit, you may find that he had adopted very religious methods on personal matters. E.g. Named his children as per norms of a particular religion e.g. Farhan and Zoya. His marriage and conduct in his personal life complies with the civil code of a particular religion. Most Indian liberals need space for similar dichotomy and our current elite class willingly provides the same.

The list is endless but limiting myself to save some electronic space on this website.
